Myotherapy
Myotherapists are highly skilled musculoskeletal therapists trained to assess and treat myofascial pain, injury and dysfunction that affects movement and mobility. 'Myofascial' referers to the muscle &/or attached fascial tissue.
This therapy is used to prevent and correct myofascial dysfunctions whilst assisting to maintain the normal integrity of the soft tissue structure (muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia) of the body.
Myofascial pain is often described as a 'deep ache', 'tightness' or 'tenderness' in an area. It can vary in intensity and radiate to other areas. Myotherapy will also address conditions that display a reduced range of motion of muscles and joints, stiffness, fatigue, weakness, numbness or a tingling sensation (scroll down to 'Common conditions that massage can treat')
Relaxation Massage
This style of massage is designed to both relax and invigorate you. It combines a series of long strokes, kneading, friction, tapping, percussion, vibration and mobilisation of soft tissue to help release the pressure that accumulates in your body.
Benefits of this style of massage include increasing the oxygen flow and circulation of the blood, shortening recovery time from muscular strain, gentle stretching of ligaments and tendons, skin stimulation and calming of the nervous system. It reduces stress, both emotional and physical, and is suggested as part of a regular program for stress management.
Deep tissue Massage
As the name implies, deep tissue massage focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue. It is often a firmer, more therapeutic style of massge, applied to access the deeper sections of thick muscles.
Deep tissue massage uses compression and friction techniques along the grain of the muscle to manually 'break down' adhesions (knots) and allow the body to release the muscular tension.
This style of massage will effectively loosen muscle tissues and stimulate blood and oxygen circulation. It is both corrective and therapeutic and may be applied to various physical problems, including sports injuries and chronic pain.
Remedial Massage
Remedial Massage is a highly specialised, therapeutic treatment used to assist in the healing of muscles and tendons that become damaged or impaired, knotted and tense or immobile. This method of treatment can integrate a variety of gentle, strong and deep techniques to treat the whole body.
Sports Massage
A specialised massage style that is specifically tailored to sporting injuries or ailments. It is designed to be purely therapeutic and can become quite vigorous at times.
Sports massage may be of benefit to anyone that exercises. Its purpose is to prevent and relieve injuries and conditions that are associated with exercise. Your sports massage will often include quite strenuous techniques and pressure that will help to relieve and reduce the tension that accumulates in muscles while exercising.
It can be carried out before, during, or after playing sport or exercising and uses techniques that are designed to increase endurance and performance, to minimise the chances of injury and, if there is an injury, to reduce the recovery time.
